Pharmaceutical multinational (CDMO)·D365 Lead Consultant · Production, Quality & Master Data

AX2009 → D365 migration and global core model across 4 plants

Migration from Dynamics AX2009 to D365 with process re-engineering under a single global core model, for hundreds of users across 4 plants in 3 countries.

D365 F&SCMAX2009 migrationManufacturingQuality ManagementMaster DataMulti-country rollout
Context

A pharmaceutical multinational (CDMO) ran on Dynamics AX2009 with heavily customized processes that were disconnected across its plants, with no shared global standard.

Challenge

Migrate to D365 while unifying heterogeneous processes under a global core model, re-engineering them toward the system standard and drastically reducing customizations, with a sequential country-by-country rollout and stringent regulatory requirements (cGMP, 21 CFR Part 11).

Solution

As Lead Consultant for Production, Quality and Master Data (supporting Warehouse, Purchasing and Sales) I handled requirements gathering, process design, configuration, data migration, testing, liaison with SMEs and key-user training. Sequential rollout starting from Italy (2 plants), then parallel analysis and configuration for the USA and France.

Result

Processes standardized under a single global core model, customizations cut by roughly 75% versus AX2009, and previously manual processes automated (such as recording production hours), with concrete gains in time and efficiency. I also designed advanced quality-management capabilities (electronic batch records, variance handling, GxP / 21 CFR Part 11 controls) that I now find in the standard Advanced Quality Management module released by Microsoft. The entire project was delivered in collaboration with Cegeka's international teams in the Netherlands and Belgium, and was run end to end in English throughout the design and build of the final solution.

Automated warehouse and vertical units integrated with AX 2012

Integration of warehouse flows between Dynamics AX 2012 and automated systems — a robotic warehouse and Modula and Kardex vertical units.

Dynamics AX 2012Warehouse ManagementAutomated warehouseModulaKardexFlow integration
Context

A company in the textile sector (yarn manufacturing) ran its warehouse on Dynamics AX 2012 with standard functionality, without an advanced warehouse module, and had invested in new automation to connect to the ERP.

Challenge

Integrate ERP flows with two very different systems: a new fully automated warehouse (rail-mounted robots for automatic picking and put-away) and two Modula and Kardex vertical warehouses at another site, while preserving data reliability and accuracy.

Solution

As D365 Consultant I handled, for both projects, flow design, system configuration, testing and go-live, building the structured interface between AX 2012 and the automation systems.

Result

A marked reduction in picking and put-away times thanks to automation, and inventory accuracy ensured by a robust, thoroughly tested interface. The automated warehouse managed over one million SKUs, in a context of roughly 10,000 order lines per month.

Fashion & Luxury (international group)·D365 Lead Consultant · Production & Master Data

D365 rollout for a luxury group on an acquisition spree

Analysis and tailored rollout for a fashion & luxury group integrating some fifteen acquired companies, with go-lives on a tight cadence.

D365 F&SCMManufacturingMaster DataMulti-company rolloutM&A integrationTemplate & fit-gap
Context

An international fashion & luxury group had acquired around fifteen companies in Italy and worldwide — from makers of chains and leather-goods components to other accessories manufacturers — each with very different production processes and master data.

Challenge

Bring deeply heterogeneous companies onto a common D365 platform, with a tight rollout cadence (a new company roughly every two months), preserving each one's production specifics while keeping group-wide master data consistent.

Solution

Within a multi-vendor, multi-disciplinary team, as Lead Consultant for Production and Master Data I ran the requirements analysis for five companies, designing the target production processes and the master-data structure from a group perspective, through configuration, testing and cutover.

Result

I took two of the analyzed companies live — a maker of leather-goods chains and a components/accessories manufacturer — within a multi-year program of recurring rollouts, contributing to a repeatable post-acquisition integration model for the group.

Home automation & motorization·D365 Lead Consultant · Production

From weighted-average to standard costing in 7 months

Full costing-model transformation for a motorization manufacturer, with variance analysis and an on-time-in-full go-live.

D365 F&SCMStandard CostingManufacturingCost AccountingVariance analysis
Context

A manufacturer in the home automation and motorization sector valued inventory using the weighted-average method, with limited visibility into real costs and difficulty supporting management control.

Challenge

Completely overhaul the cost model by moving to standard costing with full variance analysis, to enable more accurate management control — while meeting a go-live date fixed by the client.

Solution

As Lead Consultant on the production side, together with a Lead Consultant on the finance side, I redesigned the entire costing model: cost structure, standard costing versions and variance-analysis policies, with configuration, testing and a controlled cutover.

Result

Cost model fully rebuilt on standard costing with complete variance analysis in just 7 months, delivered on time in full and beyond client expectations, with markedly more accurate management control.

Analysis and solution design for the AX2009 → AX2012 upgrade

Requirements analysis and solution design for the supply chain and production areas in a heavy-manufacturing upgrade from Dynamics AX2009 to AX2012.

Dynamics AX2009Dynamics AX2012ERP upgradeSupply ChainManufacturingSolution design
Context

A manufacturer of industrial plants and machinery ran on Dynamics AX2009 and had launched an upgrade project to AX2012, aiming to align its supply chain and production processes with a more modern ERP version.

Challenge

Set the right foundations for the upgrade: understand the existing processes and real requirements, and design the target solution for the supply chain and production areas, ahead of the configuration and build phases.

Solution

I owned the early phase of the project: gathering and analyzing requirements and designing the solution for the SCM and production areas, defining the target for the key processes in view of the AX2012 upgrade.

Result

Requirements mapped and a target solution designed for supply chain and production, providing a solid base for the later phases of the upgrade. My contribution focused on the analysis and design phases; I then left the consulting firm before the project continued.
